Long Beach officially opens first Safe Haven Baby Box in Mississippi

SUMMARY: The first Baby Box in Mississippi has been made available to women in crisis. The Baby Box, located at the Long Beach Central Fire Station, allows for the anonymous surrender of an infant under Mississippi’s Safe Haven Law. This is the 158th location in the nation. Safe Haven Baby Boxes is the only organization in the country dedicated to providing an anonymous surrender option for mothers in crisis. The organization also offers free confidential counseling through their hotline. The project was made possible thanks to the support of various individuals and organizations. Since 2017, 35 infants have been placed in a Baby Box.

Biloxi Shuckers drop home opener in extra innings

SUMMARY: The Biloxi Shuckers lost their home opener to the Columbus Clingstones 7-6 in extra innings. The Shuckers remain winless at 0-4, while the Clingstones earned their first win of the season (1-2). Biloxi saw home runs from Cooper Pratt, Luis Lara, and Zavier Warren. Abdiel Mendoza impressed with seven strikeouts in 3.2 scoreless innings. Biloxi led 6-0, but Columbus mounted a comeback, tying the game in the ninth.
