Health Corner: Antinuclear antibody testing for rheumatic diseases
SUMMARY: Antinuclear antibody (ANA) testing is a common method for screening autoimmune disorders. Dr. Beth Lindsay explains that a positive ANA test does not automatically confirm a disease, but signals the need for further testing. Symptoms such as unexplained fatigue, joint pain, swelling, rashes, and chronic issues often prompt this test. The evaluation process includes a detailed medical history and additional blood tests. If an autoimmune disease is diagnosed, treatment options and long-term care are discussed. ANA testing can be done at any age, as autoimmune diseases affect both children and adults. The goal is early detection and proactive management.
Dr. Beth Lindsey shares more on testing done to spot autoimmune diseases.
