Long Beach announces new $1.9 million purchase of beachfront property
SUMMARY: Long Beach has announced the acquisition of 32 acres of undeveloped beachfront property for $1.9 million, collaborating with the Mississippi Coastal Plain Land Trust. The project aims to develop the land as an urban forest, open to the public from dawn to dusk for nature enjoyment. Local residents, who opposed an RV park on the site, worked for ten years to secure this environmentally-friendly outcome. Restoration efforts will begin in 2025 to eliminate invasive species. Funding was provided by the Angela J. Bowen Conservation Foundation, with appreciation expressed by Mayor Bass for the cooperative landowner committed to conservation.
