SUMMARY: Steep Hill Mississippi, the state’s first licensed medical marijuana testing lab, urges lawmakers to regulate over-the-counter cannabis products sold in gas stations and convenience stores. The lab’s report indicates these items contain unregulated and excessive levels of Delta-9-THC, which can reach 12-14% when smoked—far above the 0.3% legal limit established after the Hemp Farming Act of 2018. Additionally, tests reveal the presence of multiple dangerous pesticides in these products, some at levels 20 times above health department limits, posing significant health risks and impairment concerns for consumers.

SUMMARY: Mississippi Congressman Bennie Thompson criticized the recently passed SAVE Act, arguing it doesn’t effectively secure elections but rather suppresses voter participation. Despite the GOP’s insistence on preventing noncitizen voting, Thompson highlighted that evidence suggests noncitizen influence on elections is minimal. The legislation requires proof of citizenship for voter registration, risking disenfranchisement for millions, particularly among marginalized groups. Thompson contends that the bill is a guise for suppressing votes and calls for Republicans to focus on genuine election security measures instead of pursuing partisan agendas. The SAVE Act may struggle in the Senate due to insufficient support.
