Local students participate in STEM on the Sound

Community college students went on a voyage to discover new career paths working with maritime technology on land and sea.
The University of Southern Mississippi School of Ocean Science and Engineering is leading the way in maritime research. It is also home to the largest concentration of oceanographers and hydrographers.

Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, Vancleave’s Hunter Harper!

SUMMARY: Hunter Harper, a senior dual-sport athlete at Vancleave High School, is this week’s WXXV Student Athlete of the Week. He rushed over 900 yards during his final football season, leading the Bulldogs to their 16th playoff appearance. Harper, who was pivotal in helping his baseball team win the school’s second State Championship, is now striving for back-to-back titles. With a 5-1 record, 39 strikeouts, and a .384 batting average, he is confident heading into playoffs. Harper values his leadership role and aims to inspire younger athletes. Best of luck to him and the Bulldogs in their playoff campaign!

19 people facing charges in George County drug bust

SUMMARY: In George County, Miss., 19 individuals face felony drug charges following “Operation Rotten Egg,” a multi-county investigation involving federal and local law enforcement. The operation resulted in 31 undercover drug purchases and the seizure of 390.47 grams of methamphetamine, 38 dosage units of oxycodone, 86 dosage units of hydrocodone, and multiple firearms. Of the 19 charged, 14 are in custody, while five remain at large. The operation involved agencies including the George County Sheriff’s Office, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and FBI Safe Streets Task Force. Investigators encourage anyone with information to contact the George County Sheriff’s Office.
