Local shops reeling in business at Point Cadet Marina
SUMMARY: The Gulf Coast Billfish Classic brought substantial business to Point Cadet Marina and the surrounding area. Competitors fueled up at GoR Bait and Tackle, significantly boosting sales. Danny Patalo reported high demand for gas, bait, and ice, particularly during the tournament and the concurrent cobia shootout. The marina's new boat slips and floating docks enhanced visitor experience, attracting more weekend and transit boats. Upcoming events, including Fourth of July celebrations and king mackerel tournaments, promise further economic benefits. Patalo hopes for a mild storm season to avoid relocating his shop, which hasn't been moved since Hurricane Ida in 2021.
Businesses at the Point Cadet Marina and the surrounding area also scored a nice catch during the Gulf Coast Billfish Classic.

Wesley's Friday Morning First Alert Forecast
SUMMARY: Hurricane Barrel is currently a Category 2 storm with 110 mph winds, heading towards the coast of Mexico. Previously a Category 5 in the East Caribbean, it has weakened due to wind shear and land interaction. Forecasts expect it to downgrade to a Tropical Storm over the weekend but may regain hurricane strength in the warm waters of the West Gulf before hitting the Mexico-Texas border early next week. Mississippi is not at risk due to a blocking high-pressure area. Local weather shows Gulfport around 80°F with potential showers, especially near Mobile Bay, and highs reaching the lower 90s today.
Heat advisory again today along with scattered t-storms for some. Meanwhile, Beryl will be steered well to our west.
