Local Race to Watch: Transit Plan
SUMMARY: With just two days until Election Day, the proposed Nashville Transit plan is a key local race to watch. Led by Mayor Freddy O’Connell and endorsed by Nashville’s Realtors and the Music Venue Association, the plan includes 86 miles of sidewalk improvements and 54 miles of upgraded corridors, along with a 24/7 transit system. Funded by a half-cent sales tax increase, it could cost families around $70 more annually. Despite past failures of similar plans, O’Connell remains confident due to its popularity among young voters. However, opponents criticize the cost and express safety concerns, advocating for funding through property tax instead.
