Two Mississippi escapees captured after being found in abandoned home
SUMMARY: Two inmates who escaped from Claiborne County Detention Center, Tyrekennel Collins, 24, and Dezarrious Johnson, 18, were captured on July 6 in an abandoned home on Bridewell Lane. They escaped on July 5 by going through the ceiling and climbing an outside wall; Johnson injured his leg during the escape. Collins is accused of killing his cousin in Copiah County in October 2023. Johnson faces murder and aggravated assault charges in Jefferson County, with a trial set for October 15, 2024. Camera footage aided in tracking them down. Drier and calm weekend ahead – Home – WCBI TV

Next week, remnants of Beryl will impact the area, likely bringing rainy days and potentially gusty winds from Tuesday to Thursday. Beryl is expected to weaken into a tropical depression as it moves inland, passing near the area by mid-week.

Hattiesburg man charged with making bomb threat against Smith County business
SUMMARY: A Hattiesburg man, Tobias Smith, was arrested for allegedly making a bomb threat against Georgia Pacific Plywood in Smith County, Mississippi. The threat, received via text on July 5, led to the evacuation of employees. Smith, 27, was apprehended at the scene and charged with one count of terroristic threats. Before employees returned, bomb dogs searched the site for explosives. Smith is currently held at the Smith County Jail, awaiting a bond hearing. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Smith County Sheriff's Office.
