SUMMARY: The Humane Society of South Mississippi emphasizes the importance of planning for pets during July 4th fireworks, as this period sees a significant increase in runaway pets. The shelter experiences a massive influx of stray animals around this holiday due to pets being frightened by loud noises. Presently, the shelter is over capacity with 412 animals, nearly 300 of which are dogs. To mitigate this, they recommend updating ID collars and microchips. Additionally, they are offering a “5 Days of Freedom” adoption special with fee-waived adoptions to free up space. Pet owners should check their local shelter if their pet goes missing.

The Humane Society of South Mississippi already shelters all animals indoors. However, like most shelters, there is limited space.
