MSAQ rehabilitates 40 Kemp’s ridley sea turtles, names them after global superstar
SUMMARY: Nearly 80 cold-stunned sea turtles from a Massachusetts aquarium have been relocated to three rehabilitation sites, with 40 arriving at the Mississippi Aquarium Aquatics Research Center. Many turtles suffer from pneumonia, shell fractures, and bone injuries. They received fluids, antibiotics, and vitamins to aid their recovery. Some had critically low heart rates of 2 to 10 beats per minute upon arrival. The facility uses a controlled heating system to create optimal recovery conditions. Each turtle is humorously named after a Taylor Swift song, with expectations that those facing pneumonia will recover in 2 to 3 months.
These turtles might be a little late for The Eras tour, but they are still swimming in style.
