SUMMARY: As Thanksgiving approaches, many prepare traditional meals, particularly turkey. Lexington Fire Department’s Battalion Chief Derek Robert offers safety tips for cooking, highlighting the dangers of frying turkey. It’s crucial to fry outdoors on a level surface and ensure the turkey is fully thawed, while maintaining a maximum temperature of 350°F. Indoors, he advises avoiding distractions and ensuring stove handles are out of reach of children. Thanksgiving poses a higher fire risk, so checking smoke detectors—either hardwired or battery-operated—is essential, with regular testing recommended. Overall, fire safety is a year-round effort to reduce incidents during the holiday.

Food is the heart of Thanksgiving, and people like to prepare it in many ways.

Farmers argued that the new rule contradicts the National Labor Relations Act, as it attempts to create rights for H-2A visa holders without Congressional approval. Reeves criticized parts of the regulation as “arbitrary and capricious.” The injunction does not apply nationwide, leaving the rule intact in other states.
