Less water now coming into the Barnett Reservoir than going out; water supply not impacted
SUMMARY: The Ross Barnett Reservoir in Rankin County, Mississippi is currently releasing more water than it is taking in. However, officials from the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, which oversees the reservoir, are not yet concerned. The intake at the reservoir has dropped to around 98,000 gallons per minute, which is 16,000 gallons less than the amount legally required to maintain downstream flow. The decrease in inflow is due to a lack of rainfall in the reservoir basin. Water conservation advisories have been issued in several cities, but officials say there is still enough water for local supplies.
