Lee County dispatcher shortage causes longer wait times for some calling 911
SUMMARY: The Lee County Dispatch Center in Mississippi is facing a critical hiring shortage, causing delays in emergency response times. Dispatchers are supposed to answer 911 calls within 10 seconds, but the shortage of staff and resources has resulted in longer waiting times for callers. Depending on the nature of the call, dispatchers may transfer it to the appropriate agency for response, which can cause further delays. The director of 911 services in Lee County cites funding as the main issue, as the current resources are not sufficient to meet the growing demand for emergency services.
