SUMMARY: Tropical Storm Oscar is currently moving through the central and southeastern Bahamas, located about 70 miles east-southeast of Long Island. It has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and is traveling northeast at 12 mph. The storm is expected to continue its fast northeastward motion over the next few days and will move away from the Bahamas by Tuesday night or Wednesday. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the southeastern Bahamas, as the National Hurricane Center monitors its progression.

SUMMARY: Oktibbeha County, Mississippi, has appointed Wayne Carpenter as the new county administrator, following the departure of Delois Farmer in July. Carpenter, a Mississippi State University graduate, previously worked as the fiscal director for the Mississippi Military Department, managing accounting operations such as payroll and federal grants. He also served as the internal audit manager at Garan, Incorporated in New York. Carpenter will officially begin his role on November 4. The board of supervisors made the decision to hire him last week.
