Lawsuit filed against Mississippi cities by family of man fatally struck during police pursuit
SUMMARY: The family of Steven Pearson, who was killed during a police pursuit in August 2022, is suing the cities of Pearl and Flowood in Mississippi. The family claims that the officers’ reckless behavior led to Pearson’s death. The chase lasted 26 minutes and could have been terminated before Pearson’s motorcycle was struck by a fleeing sedan. Pearson flew 20 feet off his motorcycle and died. The family is also suing the man who fled from police and struck Pearson. This incident comes after another police pursuit resulted in the death of a mail carrier three weeks prior. The cities have not commented on the lawsuit.
