FIRST ALERT: Cooler temps on Thursday, elevated fire risk (03/19/2025)
SUMMARY: South Mississippi will experience a significant drop in temperatures, with highs struggling to reach the 60s on Thursday, following a warm day in the 70s. A cold front associated with a low-pressure system in the Midwest will bring gusty northwest winds and a red flag warning due to low humidity and dry conditions, increasing the risk of fires. Overnight lows may fall into the 30s, potentially causing frost, so sensitive plants should be protected. Following this cool snap, temperatures are expected to rise again, with the weekend bringing highs in the upper 70s and a potential for rain next week.

Chief Meteorologist Eric Jeansonne explains why cooler temps are in the cards as well as an elevated fire risk.
