Lamar County School District fights against teen vaping
SUMMARY: Lamar County Schools have intensified efforts to combat teen vaping, enforcing a 45-day alternative school penalty for offenders. Local school officials are collaborating with state leaders to restrict access to vape products, particularly due to concerns over high nicotine levels, with some vapes containing 70-80% nicotineโmuch higher than cigarettes. The Lamar County Sheriff’s Department highlights a local store generating nearly $20,000 weekly from vape sales, many of which likely target underage buyers. Efforts include advocating for licenses for vape sellers, harsher penalties for violations, and zoning laws to limit vape sales near schools and parks.
