Ship sinking and Texas railroads; artificial reefs see expansion in the gulf
SUMMARY: The world’s largest artificial reef project, involving the retired SS United States, has faced delays due to pier issues in Philadelphia. Originally set for transport to Mobile, Alabama for sinking off the Florida coast, no new date has been established. The project aims to create habitats for marine life, addressing declines in fish habitats caused by human impact and climate change. Texas has partnered with Friends of RGV Reef to develop artificial reefs, sinking over 70 million pounds of materials.
