Deputy killed in Russell County shooting named, trailer damaged in shooting

SUMMARY: In Russell County, Deputy Josh Fips tragically died in the line of duty while searching for a fleeing from the Kentucky . According to Sheriff Derek Pson, Deputy Fips, a three-year veteran, was engaged in a gunfight while responding to an incident on Bluebird . He sustained injuries and succumbed later at a local hospital. Eyewitnesses reported hearing rapid gunfire in a mobile home park, where the suspect attempted to evade arrest. Property was noted, particularly in a nearby camper. The investigation is being led by Kentucky State Police, and schools in the area are closed as the community mourns.

The Russell County Fiscal Court said Monday night that RCSO deputy Josh Phipps was killed. According to KSP, he was a three-year veteran of the sheriff’s office.
