Kentucky lawmakers seek answers on dispute over database access
SUMMARY: In Frankfurt, a dispute among state agencies regarding a 2023 law has hindered the Ombudsman’s ability to investigate government complaints effectively. The Ombudsman’s office lost access to the ITwist database, critical for handling sensitive information on child and adult abuse cases, since transitioning from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services to the auditor’s office. Auditor Allison Ball expressed concern over unresolved access issues. While the governor labeled the matter non-political, cabinet officials acknowledged unexpected complications during the transition. Lawmakers may push for a resolution by the 2025 session, but short-term efforts will include a memo of understanding between agencies.
โWe continue to get complaints every day from the public and it needs to get resolved very very quickly,โ Auditor Allison Ball told lawmakers on the committee.

Indiana's 9th Congressional candidates discuss their top priorities
SUMMARY: In the Ninth Congressional District, Congresswoman Erin Houchin, a Republican, has previously won elections comfortably but faces a challenge from moderate Democrat Tim Peck, an emergency physician focusing on healthcare reform and bipartisan initiatives like telemedicine. Peck emphasizes the importance of abortion rights based on his medical experience, asserting government shouldn’t interfere in healthcare decisions. Houchin, staunchly anti-abortion, prioritizes economic issues, border security, and energy independence. She aims to reverse President Biden‘s policies on natural gas and promote the Secure the Border Act. Libertarian candidate Russell Brooksbank is also in the race but has historically had little impact.
