5.1-magnitude earthquake in West Texas felt in downtown San Antonio on Monday evening
SUMMARY: Last night, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck north of Midland, affecting areas around 300 miles away, including San Antonio. Although many residents in San Antonio did not feel the quake, those in high-rise buildings reported experiencing it. This is due to the swaying motion in taller structures amplifying distant tremors. Such earthquakes are not unusual in the region, often linked to activities like fracking. Further insights on potential future seismic activity in South Central Texas were provided by Justin Horn, highlighting the need for awareness of seismic risks in the area.
