JXN Water works to bring system into regulatory compliance
SUMMARY: Jackson’s water system in Mississippi is under the regulatory oversight of the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH). JXN Water, the agency that operates the water system, notifies MSDH of any violations, and then the information is made public. This week, the public will be notified of violations related to the Corrosion Control Treatment for the EPA’s Lead & Copper Rule. The water system has been in violation of water quality parameters since 2018 and has failed to install corrosion control treatment since 2020. JXN Water and Jacobs are working to implement improvements to achieve regulatory compliance. Concerns can be addressed by contacting JXN Water Customer Service.

SUMMARY: Von’s Soul Food Catering in Columbus, Mississippi, provides over 400 meals to those in need at Loaves and Fishes every third Tuesday. Since 2018, owner Lavonne Harris has prepared full-course meals for the homeless and hungry. On November 19, a Thanksgiving-themed meal was served, including dressing, vegetables, and dessert. The meals are a special way to support people before the holiday. Volunteers from the community and local businesses assist in serving the meals. Harris also encourages more volunteers and churches to help, as there are days when additional support is needed to serve meals.
