SUMMARY: The city of Jackson has been facing issues with small pipes that are not large enough to serve the community, causing a lack of water pressure and discoloration for customers. The third-party water administrator, Ted Hanavan, discussed a priority project to replace the two-inch pipes with six-inch pipes. The project is estimated to cost between $3 to $5 million per mile. Hanavan assured that streets will be replaced curb to curb, including new water and sewer lines, as well as new pavement. The first pilot project will begin this summer, with hopes of starting the full 100-mile project in the fall. Businesses have been affected by the poor infrastructure, leading to some having to relocate.
