Justice Department cites unsafe Georgia prison conditions | Georgia
SUMMARY: A Department of Justice report claims Georgia is violating the Eighth Amendment by failing to protect inmates from physical and sexual violence. The 93-page investigation highlights serious deficiencies in staffing, facility conditions, and safety management. It points to the stabbings and homicides in prisons, including incidents involving LGBTI individuals targeted for abuse. Assistant U.S. Attorney General Kristen Clarke described the conditions as “horrific and inhumane,” putting both inmates and prison staff at risk. The Georgia Department of Corrections disputes the findings, asserting they exceed constitutional requirements and emphasizing ongoing cooperation with the Justice Department despite past oversight challenges.

Currently stationed in Florida, he left the urn with his mother, Erin, who is trying to find its owner through a Facebook post that has been shared nearly 200 times. With no identifying marks on the urn, they hope to return it to its rightful family, meanwhile keeping it safe in their home.

Biden rejects Nippon Steel's proposed deal to acquire US Steel
SUMMARY: President Joe Biden has officially blocked the proposed $15 billion acquisition of U.S. Steel by Japan’s Nippon Steel, reaffirming his commitment to prioritize American steel companies. Despite the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) failing to reach a consensus on national security risks, Biden emphasized the importance of maintaining U.S.-owned steelmaking capacities. Concerns from labor unions about job security and financial transparency also influenced his decision. While the acquisition had supporters, including some lawmakers, Biden’s rejection may strain U.S.-Japan relations, especially as Japan is a key ally and major holder of U.S. debt.
