SUMMARY: On July 4th, Mississippi’s Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is offering a “Free Fishing Day”. This event allows residents to fish in any public water across the state without a license. The department hopes to encourage residents to visit one of the 19 state lakes or 18 state park lakes. Even though a license is not required on this day, anglers must still have permits to fish in state-owned lakes. The initiative aims to engage first-time anglers and seasoned fishermen and to promote a love for fishing and conservation.
