SUMMARY: This weekend, MBA hosted a JUCO basketball event in Mississippi, attracting teams from all over the state, region, and beyond. The event provided much-needed exposure for the players and allowed them to showcase their skills in front of college coaches. Yusef Fitzgerald, Piney Wood Athletics Director, expressed his satisfaction with the event’s success, as it helps make Mississippi a basketball destination. Mississippi has a lot of talented kids who often go unnoticed, and this event gave them the opportunity to shine. Teams from Canada, Florida, Missouri, and Louisiana also participated, making it a diverse and competitive event.

Local, in-state and teams from far and wide were in Jackson this weekend for the Mississippi JUCO Jamboree at MBA. This gives players from Mississippi a chance to compete in front of college coaches before the season starts and it’s only the beginning. Even organizer Yusef Fitzgerald, who is the athletics director at Piney Woods, say there could be up to 70 teams participating next year after a solid debut for the event this weekend.
