SUMMARY: Sonic Boom of the South, a marching band from Jackson State University in Mississippi, participated in the inaugural event titled ‘We Are One’ celebrating America’s diversity. This event honored the black community and the historic achievement of having Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, a graduate of Howard University, representing an HBCU. Other HBCU marching bands from Grambling, A&M, and South Carolina State also performed virtually. The significance of this occasion was heightened by the recent loss of Dr. Dollye Robinson, a former assistant band director and instructor of music who served for nearly 60 years.
