JSU basketball earns top SWAC Awards
SUMMARY: The SWAC year-end awards for men’s basketball were handed out in Jackson State, with Ken Evans being named the SWAC Player of the Year and Jordan O’Neal earning Defensive Player of the Year. They both led in various statistical categories and played for Texas Southern in the quarterfinals. The Jackson State women’s team also received awards, with head coach Tamika Reed being named Coach of the Year and Angel Jackson earning Defensive Player of the Year. Alcorn State’s Jeremiah Kendle and Jesse Brown received honors as well. The SWAC tournament is set to begin, with Jackson State and Alcorn State teams ready to compete.
Both Jackson State men’s and women’s basketball teams took home major honors from the SWAC now that the regular season has concluded. JSU women’s head coach Tomekia Reed is the Coach of the Year for the third year in a row and Jackson native Ken Evans Jr is the SWAC Player of the Year in men’s basketball. Angel Jackson repeats as SWAC Defensive Player of the Year while Jordan O’Neal of the men’s team also wins that honor.

Keep Jackson Beautiful expands JXN Recycle program

Salvation Army kicks off 2024 holiday campaigns

Interview: Grenada Nissan hosting toy drive on Nov. 16
SUMMARY: Toys for Tots is hosting a toy drive to help children in need this Christmas. Brian Tedford of Toys for Tots and Michael Woods, general manager of Grenada Nissan, discuss their collaboration over the past six years. The drive supports children in Grenada, Montgomery, and Carroll Counties. Last year, they raised $4,300 and gathered 700 toys, with a goal to exceed that this year. Donations are being accepted at Grenada Nissan until 6 p.m. today and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Santa Claus will also be present for photos. Gratitude is extended to past supporters and participants.
The public is encouraged to donate new, unwrapped toys on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Grenada Nissan.
