JPS unveils five-year strategic plan
SUMMARY: Leaders of the Jackson Public School District (JPS) in Jackson, Miss., unveiled a five-year strategic plan at a recent leadership conference. The plan includes five commitments: enhancing teaching and learning strategies, building stronger teams, sustaining joy, improving organizational effectiveness, and ensuring a strong finish. Key objectives include increasing reading, math, and science scores for 3rd-8th graders to 50% by 2029. This initiative follows the closure of 11 schools at the end of the 2023-24 school year. Superintendent Dr. Errick Greene emphasized the importance of organizational efficiency and took pride in the district’s current 84% graduation rate, surpassing a previous goal of 80%.

SUMMARY: A bridge on U.S. 80 over the Pearl River, at the Hinds/Rankin County line in Jackson, Mississippi, will be closed for several months starting December 2, 2024, due to deck replacement by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). SUMMARY: WREG is seeking records and bodycam footage of an incident in Southaven, Mississippi, where a police officer allegedly pointed a stun gun at 9-year-old Ahmar Anderson on Nov. 7.
