Jones County officer-involved shooting was justified
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Attorney General‘s Office has determined that an officer-involved shooting that took place in Jones County last year was justified. The incident, which involved 15 Jones County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and one Office of the State Auditor Special Agent, occurred on November 23, 2022, in the Johnson community. Deputy Joey Davis was shot in the upper legs by the suspect, who then barricaded himself inside a home and suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Both Davis and the suspect received medical treatment, with Davis being released from the hospital and the suspect being transported to Forrest General Hospital with serious injuries. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation.
