Jones County has plans to replace HVAC units at county jail
SUMMARY: Jones County leaders are addressing concerns about the jail’s aging air conditioning system, which struggles to keep inmates cool in July’s extreme heat. Warden Abraham McKenzie noted frequent breakdowns, but they are managing by providing fans to inmates. County Chief Administrative Officer Daniel Ashley confirmed that bids for an HVAC upgrade have been approved, funded by American Rescue funds. Although the project aims to replace 13 units, equipment delivery has been delayed until late September, with installation expected to take 100 days after arrival. The existing system has not been replaced since 1995, highlighting the urgent need for improvements.
