WTV media’s John Delk discusses tornadoes, noting that while calm weather prevails now, October and November can bring secondary severe weather. Tornadoes develop with strong surface winds from the south and southeast, combined with strong upper air winds, causing rotation. Warm air rises and cold air sinks, generating circulation that can create a wall cloud. If this wall cloud extends to the ground, it forms a tornado, which can vary in intensity from EF0 to EF5. Recent examples include the EF3 tornadoes in Amry and Tupelo, and the devastating EF4 in Rolling Fork.
