JCPS says first day went smooth after some routes added back
SUMMARY: JCPS reported a smooth first day of school after reinstating bus service for six schools, although many still lack transportation. Parents expressed challenges with drop-offs and pickups, preferring bus service. Last year’s cutbacks by the Jefferson County Board of Education eliminated transportation for most magnet and traditional schools. On the first day, approximately 1,100 students benefited from resumed bus routes, supported by existing and TARC drivers. JCPS Chief Operating Officer Rob Faulk mentioned ongoing recruitment to increase driver numbers and hopes to expand services further. Families using bus service will continue to receive a transportation stipend until the end of the school year.
