Jackson State awarded $7 million in grants from U.S. Department of Education

SUMMARY: Jackson State University (JSU) has received over $7m in grants from the US Department of Education. The funds will be used to improve academic outcomes for school-age children in neighbouring school systems. JSU’s Associate Vice President of Student Success, Mitchell Shears, authored four of the five grants that will include intensive math and science education and year-round tutoring for high school students via the Upward Bound program. The final grant, written by JSU’s Associate Provost for Academic Affairs Brandi Newkirk-Turner, will train graduate students to improve literacy outcomes for children with disabilities.

MCBB: Mississippi State drops to No. 24, Ole Miss knocked out of AP Top 25
