Jackson police will receive new license plate readers
SUMMARY: The Jackson Police Department is set to enhance its surveillance capabilities following city council approval for 16 new licensed plate readers to combat a rising auto theft rate, particularly involving popular brands like Kia and Hyundai. Chief Joseph Wade emphasized that the technology will strategically target high-crime areas and serve as a vital tool for the department. With only two plate readers currently in use, the planned installation aims to improve monitoring and assist in reducing auto burglaries and carjackings. The new cameras are expected to roll out in the coming months, significantly changing law enforcement operations in Jackson.

Governor signs bill eliminating state income tax
SUMMARY: Governor Tate Reeves signed a bill that gradually reduces Mississippi’s state income tax by 0.25% each year until 2030, reaching a total reduction of 3%. Additionally, the state’s grocery tax, currently the highest in the U.S. at 7%, will be cut to 5% starting July 1st. To offset revenue losses, the gas tax will rise by $0.09 per gallon. Reeves emphasized that the policy supports hard-working residents and positions Mississippi for growth.
