Jackson Police Department welcomes new class of recruits
SUMMARY: The Jackson Police Department welcomed its 70th recruiting class on February 19th. In just under 12 weeks, more officers will join the force to serve and protect the capital city. Officials are emphasizing intense training to ensure future officers are successful in the community. The city and JPD are experiencing a cultural shift, with a positive change and reduced violence and crime. Detective Tommie Brown explained that the new officers see this as a positive direction for the city. After the class graduates in early May, JPD is expected to have 275 officers.

Man accused in Loranger kidnapping, murder case extradited to Louisiana
SUMMARY: Daniel Callihan, accused of kidnapping sisters Jalie and Erin Brunett and killing Erin and their mother, Callie, has been extradited to Louisiana from Mississippi. Callihan, who had been in custody since June 13, allegedly stabbed Callie to death in her Loranger home before abducting the children. Erin was found dead in Mississippi, having died from suffocation. Callihan agreed to extradition on June 24 and is now held in federal custody at the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center. There has been no update on the status of his alleged accomplice, Victoria Cox, who was also arrested in Mississippi.

3 arrested after Claiborne County drive-by shooting injures 4
SUMMARY: In Claiborne County, Mississippi, three suspects were arrested for a drive-by shooting on Northside Drive on May 27. Four men were shot and a black Nissan Altima was struck multiple times. The victims were taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment. The suspects, identified as Clydarrious Johnson, Jeremiah Jackson, and a juvenile, face charges including two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, drive-by shooting, possession of stolen firearms, and possession of a stolen vehicle. Victim identified in crash involving sheriff’s deputy vehicle, tractor
SUMMARY: Arthur Cleveland, a 66-year-old tractor driver, was identified by Montgomery County Coroner Allan Pratt as the individual who died in a crash involving a sheriff's deputy vehicle at Highway 82 and Hatchcock Road in Winona, Mississippi. The incident occurred last night and saw responses from the sheriff's department, Winona police, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The accident remains under investigation.
