Jackson leaders focus on reopening Thalia Mara Hall
SUMMARY: Thalia Mara Hall in Jackson, Mississippi, has been temporarily closed due to “early microbial activity” discovered while assessing an HVAC system that malfunctioned. Deputy Director Mike Williams explained a controls outage was identified, leading to the HVAC inspection. Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba noted that the microbial growth has not been longstanding. The city aims to reopen the venue in time for Kevin Hart’s tour in September, ensuring safety is prioritized based on engineering reports. Consequently, a scheduled event this weekend was relocated to another venue. City officials are collaborating with Johnson Controls for proper maintenance.

How Isaac Smith became MSUโs top defender
SUMMARY: Isaac Smith, a safety for Mississippi State, emerged as a football standout at Itawamba Agricultural High School, attracting Division I offers. Coming from an athletic family, with his father playing at Ole Miss, Isaac’s first offer also came from there. However, he felt a strong connection with Mississippi State and its late coach Mike Leach, who he admired for his kindness, including attending a game when Isaac wasn’t playing. Following Leach’s unexpected passing, Isaac sought guidance through prayer and ultimately chose Mississippi State, feeling called to be there. Today, he remains committed, regardless of coaching changes.
