Jackson leader aims to help senior citizens after storms
SUMMARY: A Jackson city councilman is calling for volunteers to help senior citizens replace lost food after recent severe storms caused power outages. Many residents had to throw out spoiled food from their refrigerators and freezers. Elderly community members in Jackson who are on fixed incomes are finding it difficult to make ends meet, especially with the burden of inflation. Councilman Kenneth Stokes encourages people to throw out old food to avoid getting sick and urges seniors in need of assistance to contact his office. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, over 13% of Jackson’s population is aged 65 and older.
