SUMMARY: Richard Gerald Jordan, a Mississippi inmate on death row since 1976, has been granted an extension until October 31 to file a petition for a rehearing after the state Supreme Court rejected his recent appeal. The 78-year-old was convicted of kidnapping and murdering Edwina Marter, the wife of a bank executive. While Jordan’s attorney cited personal obligations for the extension, the Mississippi Attorney General‘s office seeks to set an execution date, arguing that all previous appeals have been denied.
