Jackson house explosions; Atmos under investigation

SUMMARY: The National Transportation Safety Board released preliminary findings regarding the investigation into a house explosion that occurred in January, killing an 82-year-old woman. The report indicates that Atmos Energy found a gas leak near the home more than two months before the explosion, but classified it as nonhazardous and did not repair it. Another house explosion occurred nearby in December, and Atmos Energy also found a non-hazardous gas leak but did not fix it. The NTSB will continue investigating the company’s methods for accessing and repairing gas leaks. The mayor emphasized the city’s demand for accountability from utility companies. Atmos Energy has not yet responded to inquiries.
