Jackson councilman pursues public safety proposal
SUMMARY: Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3, plans to propose a public safety measure during the City Council meeting. Stokes is concerned about the presence of assault rifles in businesses and wants to enforce existing ordinances that prohibit guns on the premises. He hopes to secure support and assistance from the Jackson Police Department and Capitol police to enforce the no gun policies. One pastor has already taken preventive measures by putting up “No Weapons Allowed” signs in his church. Stokes will introduce his enforcement measure at the City Council meeting.
