Jackson councilman holds ‘Stop the Violence’ motorcade, march

SUMMARY: Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes, along with the community and Reset Jackson, organized a “Stop the Violence” motorcade and march due to increasing violent crime in the city. Stokes highlighted that the lack of state law prohibiting the advertising or selling of firearms is a major problem contributing to the issue. Stokes proposed “The Capital City Gun Safety Act” and had it placed on the front doors of the Mississippi State Capitol. Reset Jackson will monitor the progress of the proposal during the Legislative Session. Jackson Police Department Captain Jacquelyn Thomas and James Hopkins from Reset Jackson both support efforts to prevent the sale of firearms in the city to reduce youth violence.
