Jackson city official, former Mississippi Valley State baseball coach passes away
SUMMARY: Doug Shanks, a former Jackson city official and longtime baseball coach, has passed away. He had been diagnosed with lymphoma months ago and passed away due to complications of chemo toxicity. As a politician, Shanks served as spokesman for the city of Jackson and oversaw various city departments. He also brought the minor league Jackson Mets to the city in 1974. In addition, Shanks served as head baseball coach at Mississippi Valley State University and helped build a new stadium for the team. His last role in baseball was as an assistant at Hartfield Academy.

Engineer charged with obstruction of justice following 2017 plane crash that killed 16 military members

Mississippi Country Music Trail marker to be unveiled at Grammy Museum in Cleveland
SUMMARY: A new marker on the Mississippi Country Music Trail will be unveiled at the Grammy Museum Mississippi in Cleveland.
