Jackson City leaders address growing fentanyl concerns
SUMMARY: Fentanyl overdoses are rising in Mississippi, prompting calls for action from city leaders. Jackson’s Assistant Police Chief Wendall Watts highlighted the increasing number of overdose incidents during a City Council meeting, emphasizing the importance of public education about the drug, particularly the common blue M30 fentanyl pills and powder. In response, House Bill 1137, signed by Governor Tate Reeves, provides Narcanโa nasal spray that counteracts opioid overdosesโat no cost to community organizations and schools. Representative Fabian Nelson aims to enhance safety and awareness about fentanyl, while concerns about the accessibility of other drugs, like kratom, were also raised.
