Jackson City Council works on redistricting

Councilman Vernon Hartley’s proposal to incorporate parts of to balance the population opposition from Councilwoman Virgi Lindsay. Hartley argues this would evenly distribute about 20,000 people per ward. Lindsay insists on protecting her ward’s integrity as long as the numbers justify it. Council President Aaron aims to mediate and refocus on constituents’ needs. The council must finalize redistricting before next month’s municipal elections, with public hearings to follow.

Police names teen struck and killed by train in New Albany
