JA standouts are transferring to Germantown

SUMMARY: The Jackson Academy Raiders secured the MA Overall Title in March for the first time since 2006, led by brothers Mike and Mason Williams. Mike led the team with 18 points per game, also topping rebounds and steals, while Mason was second in scoring and rebounding. Both are transferring to Germantown High School, where they’ll join top national player Sam Funches and Mikey Johnson, son of JSU Assistant Coach Trey Johnson, who transferred from Vicksburg. These additions position the Germantown Mavericks as strong contenders in the 7A division this upcoming season.

Mike and Mason Williams, who starred at Jackson Academy, are now transferring to Germantown High School. The two brothers and sons of JSU head basketball coach and NBA Champion Mo Williams led JA to a 36-1 record and their first overall MAIS title since 2006 this past season. Now they will join one of the top players in the country in the 2026 class in Sam Funchess at Germantown. Robert Wilson of Mississippi Scoreboard is also reporting that the son of JSU assistant coach Trey Johnson, Mikey, is also at Germantown after transferring from Vicksburg. With these additions Germantown becomes a legit contender for the 7A crown this upcoming season.

SUMMARY: Students and faculty at DT Cox Elementary in Pontotoc have returned to campus after being displaced due to a January fire caused by a malfunction. The school had temporarily relocated to West Heights Baptist Church. Principal Emily Vanderver expressed gratitude for the church’s support and highlighted the joy of returning to their familiar environment. The 365 third and fourth graders are thrilled to resume their routine and enjoy longer playtime in their own space. The community is relieved to see the school restored and operating normally once again after several weeks of disruption.

A Pontotoc elementary school recently reopened following a damaging fire.

Anderson, who set several Bulldog records, credits her improvement to her coach, Cat Stratton, and her Christian faith. Now a rookie, she is focused on learning from her more experienced teammates, Katie Lond and Jordan Bloomer, while remaining motivated by her faith.
