Biden pardons Fauci, Jan. 6 committee ahead of Trump inauguration
SUMMARY: In a final act before leaving office, President Joe Biden granted pardons to several public servants targeted by Donald Trump, including Dr. Anthony Fauci and retired Gen. Mark Milley. He also pardoned members of the House committee that investigated the January 6 Capitol attack, as well as several police officers who testified. Biden emphasized that these individuals served the nation honorably and do not deserve politically motivated prosecutions. While some committee members may accept the pardons, others feel they are unnecessary. Biden defended his actions as a response to exceptional circumstances, asserting the rule of law should prevail.

TikTok restores service for US users based on Trump’s promised executive order
SUMMARY: TikTok restored service to U.S. users on Sunday after going dark due to a federal ban. President-elect Donald Trump announced he would issue an executive order to extend the deadline for TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to sell its U.S. operations. The ban stemmed from national security concerns, but Trump’s order aimed to provide more time for a potential sale. Despite app removals from stores, users regained access, and Trump’s actions were viewed as a political maneuver. TikTok’s future remains uncertain, with no confirmed buyers, and questions about the legality of Trump’s intervention persist.

Missouri lawmakers are going after voter-approved abortion rights. Voters will likely reelect them
SUMMARY: In Missouri, voters approved an abortion rights amendment, but GOP lawmakers are seeking to roll back some of those protections. Despite the amendment, which allows restrictions after viability, Republican legislators are working on laws to impose more limits, such as banning most abortions after cardiac activity is detected. They argue that regulating abortion in this way adheres to voter intent. Political experts suggest that Missouri’s Republican lawmakers face little electoral threat due to the dominance of their party, especially in rural areas, where voters tend to support stricter abortion laws. Similar efforts are ongoing in other states like Ohio and Arizona.
