Interview: Teen driver safety is major concern in Mississippi
SUMMARY: Memorial Day marks the beginning of the “100 deadliest days” for teen drivers, as noted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Staff Sergeant Brian McGee of the Mississippi Highway Patrol states that Mississippi often ranks in the top five nationally for teenage driving fatalities. Recently passed driver’s education requirements are expected to improve this situation by ensuring teens learn essential road rules. Common mistakes among teen drivers include failing to yield, speeding through yellow lights, and not using turn signals. Additionally, the MHP is launching a summer reading and safety program to engage and educate young kids in daycares, promoting safety and awareness from an early age.
