Interview: Lee-Itawamba Library System hosting Helen Foster Lecture on May 9
SUMMARY: The Lee-Itawamba Library System is preparing to present the Helen Foster Lecture, honoring the legacy of Helen Foster, who was credited with launching the bookmobile service in the 1930s. The lecture will feature Dr. Katherine Sharp Landdeck, author of “The Women with Silver Wings,” which explores the experiences of women Air Force service pilots during World War II. The lecture will take place on Thursday, May 9th, at 6 pm. Additionally, Kathy Blanchard, a former library employee, will receive the 2023 Helen Foster Award for Library Advocacy. The library is also seeking volunteers for the summer reading program, which will kick off in June. Philip Shakle Ford, the Executive Director of the library system, emphasizes the importance of reading and the library in the community.

While some community members express excitement about the shopping options, Target has not confirmed its plans for Tupelo, as its future store openings do not currently include the city. Despite recent mixed earnings reports, company officials remain optimistic about their long-term prospects.
