Interview: Just Jesus 5K run/walk set for Sept. 28
SUMMARY: The Just Jesus 5K Run/Walk is taking place this weekend at Fair Park, starting at 7:30 AM. Organized by Jeie Rogers, the event supports Just Jesus Incorporated, a ministry founded by her son, who battles cerebral palsy and aims to distribute free Bibles. Over the years, the ministry has provided Bibles to children, teens, and recovery centers. Participants of all abilities are encouraged to join, with medals for all finishers and a new fun run for kids. Registration is available at runsignup.com. The event promises free Bibles, breakfast, coffee, and a fun, peaceful atmosphere.

Laurel High School students take stand on domestic violence
SUMMARY: Laurel High School’s student council commemorated Domestic Violence Awareness Month through an annual balloon release, honoring survivors and remembering victims. Lamar County man sentenced to 134 years in prison
SUMMARY: Tory Johnson, a Lamar County man, was sentenced to 134 years in prison for shooting a deputy in 2022. Petal water meter replacement continuing apace
SUMMARY: Pedal’s mayor announced significant upgrades to nearly 1,600 water meters, up from just 80 a few months ago, aiming to improve the efficiency of reading water usage. The new dial and transponder units enable city workers to automatically gather data from vehicles, reducing the need for manual readings. So far, around 600 meters have been updated, and the city plans to repair all 3,600 meters in total.
